Adelaide Crows Page made by Bruce
Introduction The Adelaide Crows are an AFL (Australian Football League) team who have had an up and down life. They entered the competition in 1991 after the SANFL (South Australian National Football League) won the bid from Port, who wanted to join instead.

The Crows first AFL game was against Hawthorn, and Adelaide won by 84 points. That year, they finished 9 (out of 15 teams), which is very good for their first year.

1992 was just as good as 1991, and finished 9th again. 1993 was the first yeat they had made the AFL finals setries. This was the year Tony Modra kicked 129 goals, and after being 42 points up at half time against Essendon in the Prelimery final, they lost by 12 points to finish 3rd. This could have been their first premiership year.

1994 was Graham Cornes last year as coach. The Crows were disappointing this year and finished 10th.

1995 brought a change in coach, Robert Shaw. He didn't perform many miracles as Adelaide had it's worst two seasons, finishing 11th (Out of 16 teams)in 1995 and 12th in 1996. He quit at the end of 1996.

This brought in Malcolm Blight. He had coached Geelong to Grand Finals in 1989, 1992 and 1994, and lost all of them. He also has the record for the longest kick in VFL (Now AFL) history I had a hope the Crows would make the finals this year, and they did. It looked like a repeat of 1993 at half time in the Prelimery Final against the Western Bulldogs as we were down by 30 points, with Modra on the bench with a knee injury. Darren Jarman stepped in and kicked a goal very late in the last quarter and the Crows were up by 3 points. Western Bulldogs player Tony Liberatore replied with a kick that looked like a goal, and as he started celebrating, the umpire signalled a behind. The Siren went and the Crows won by 2 points. This had them in the Grand Final against St. Kilda. Adelaide came from 13 points down at half time to kick 14.1 to 5.6 to win by 31 points, and win their first premiership.

1998 started disasterously. However, a excellent mid season had them in the finals. They lost the qualifying final to Melbourne, but defeated Sydney by 37 points to be in the Prelimery final against, guess who, the Western Bulldogs. They had an excellent year and underestimated the Crows. The Crows took full advantage and won by 68 points and have a spot in the Grand Final against North Melbourne (Now Kangaroos).

Adelaide had a dismal start to the grand final, and only North Melbourne's bad kicking (2.11 in the 2nd quarter) kept Adelaide in the game at half time. They were down by 24 points, and it was looking not very good.

However, North Melbourne underestimated Adelaide, and Adelaide ended up winning by 35 points and became the first team in AFL history to win back to back premierships.

Well, as you can see, they are looking good now. Let's hope they can do it 3 in a row. Now, before we go any further, I have no afflilations with the club. So please don't send messages to me to pass onto them. Thankyou.
